Each year, we have a contest to design the postcard logo that goes out to regional members over social media and our website, announcing the upcoming annual conference. It will also be used for slideshows and on various conference swag. This gives the illustrator a chance to have their work highlighted.
This year’s theme is Steering the Craft. Deadline for submission is October 19, 2018. The winner will be announced around October 30.
Requirements: You must be a current SCBWI member living in MD/DE/WV to enter.
Theme: Our Conference this year is named “Steering the Craft”. Use your imagination to create an image that exemplifies this theme idea.
Text: Please leave space for the text “Steering the Craft” MD/DE/WV SCBWI, March 22-24, 2019. If you are a designer, feel free to include typography in your submission, but please put the type on a separate layer or be prepared to supply an illustration without text as well.
Color or Black & White: We welcome full color or black and white submissions.
Layout: The size is 8 inches wide x 5.5 inches high. Your illustration may be larger but will need to proportionally fit 8×5.5 when reduced. Please note that the image MUST BE HORIZONTAL. The file should be jpg or pdf format at 300 dpi resolution at the 8×5.5 inch size.
To Submit: Email submission as jpg or pdf attachment to Cheryl Mendenhall at email@example.com no later than October 19, 2018. Include your name and contact information in the email, but do not place your name on the attachment, to be forwarded anonymously to the judging committee. All submissions should say “Steering the craft postcard contest” in the subject line.
Prize: The winner will receive one free admission to the spring conference or a free critique at the conference (winner’s choice). The winner will be announced by October 30, 2018, and the illustration will be featured when promoting our 2019 Conference!
NOTE: Please note that by submitting an illustration for this competition you are granting usage rights to MD/DE/WV SCBWI to use your illustration in promoting the 2019 spring conference “Steering the Craft” including but not limited to: blog, website, postcards, mailers, conference materials. Please do not submit an illustration that is already under contract or whose usage rights are already held by a third party.
Please contact Cheryl Mendenhall at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
